Business Cards That Sell

Do you ever wonder if people keep your business card?
Why do you keep the business cards that you do?

Most people file the cards they do keep in a box along with all the rest they collect. Maybe you'll be lucky to have your information transferred to their database. But how can you create a desire for people to actually keep your card readily available—reminding them of your business?

Here's a tip: Put something on the back of your business card that they really want to keep.

Here are some ideas we've come up with:

  • Place useful web sites or phone numbers on the back. For example:
    examples:
    • Local hotlines
    • Poison control centers
    • Police
    • CPR tips, etc.
  • Place motivational quotes on the back—or funny jokes.
  • Put a calendar on the back.
  • Put a coupon on the back.
    example:
    • A discount for services, or a free item for a referral.
  • A map to your office/store.
  • Put a quiz question on the back that leads then to your web site for the answer. This may not entice them to keep your card close by, but at least gets them to your web site!
  • Something related to your business.
    examples:
    • if you conduct seminars- put the schedule on the back.
If you have a coffee shop, use the back as a punch card around the edges. One punch for each cup bought—11th cup free.
    • In the construction trade? How about placing a ruler or a scale on the back of the card or some type of formula that a contractor would use.
Lyna's Favorite
Turn the back of the card into advertisement for other business. Place clients testimonials there- along with their web sites.

Fred's Favorite
The magic store has a business card holder that allows you to light your business card on fire. As you remove the card it flashes for a split second. It doesn't burn the card, but it leaves a lasting impression.

Business cards can get pricey, but thanks to the internet, there are inexpensive places that have some good quality cards. One we've used is www.vistaprint.com.

The Publicity HoundI've been following Joan Stewart, The Publicity Hound®, for years and have bought several of her products. As a result, I doubled the number of publicity hits I was getting in just eight months, and I even got stories in the Los Angeles Times and on National Public Radio.
