Do You Want to Become a Money Magnet?
Tip: Become known as an expert in your field
Dear Fred and Lyna:
I am starting my consulting business and want to establish myself as an expert. The only problem is, I’m not sure how to do this. Can you give me a few pointers?
Fred: Becoming an expert in whatever line of work you do is the best way to forge a path to business success. People will seek you out as the “go to” person.
Lyna: So you need to know everything you can about your business. Along with your experience, it helps to read all the articles or books you can to keep current.
Fred: Then start writing your own articles about your field of expertise. This is a great way to not only get your name known, but also to show the world that you know what you are talking about. Send them out to newspapers, trade magazines, websites and anywhere you can get them published.
Lyna: You can also create a website just for letting people read these articles—or blogs as they are becoming known on the Internet. Make sure you give accurate, high quality information.
Fred: My expert status started with a controversial article that I wrote. It established me as an expert in the stone industry literally overnight! That one article has lead to others and today I have written hundreds of articles and have published nearly thirty books.
Lyna: You might also want to join some online forums for your trade. Take time to give answers to peoples questions and share your knowledge with them.
Fred: Speaking and giving presentations is another way to establish you as an expert.
Lyna: Your Chamber of Commerce and local organizations are always looking for interesting, informative people to speak at their meetings.
Fred: If you can offer a class at a local college, you’ve got it made. After all, teachers are considered experts in the subject they teach.
Lyna: Because I received exposure from teaching Faux Finishing in my town, Lark publishing contacted me to author a couple of Faux Finishing books. This is how I started to become known as the top in my field regionally.
Fred: Which brings up an excellent point. If you take time to write a book in your field, it will establish you as an expert and be a reason for the media to interview you.
Lyna: Also let the media know that you are available for any questions they have regarding news events related to your field.
Lyna: Fred is also called frequently to be an expert witness for clients who are in law suits regarding their stone work. What better way to be considered as an expert than from the US court system?
Fred: The bottom line is to get your name out in the public with your business knowledge and you will soon be a money magnet and see your products fly of the shelves.
